“Innovation has nothing to do with how many R&D dollars you have. When Apple came up with the Mac, IBM was spending at least 100 times more on R&D. It’s not about money. It’s about the people you have, how you’re led, and how much you get it.” - Steve Jobs
Passing away of Steve Jobs on October 05, 2011 brought sorrow to the world especially for the people who are into technology and enjoyed its benefits. Steve became synonymous with innovation and is known as an innovative and visionary leader.
He was the adopted son who underwent lot of trials in his initial life where he survived by selling coke bottles and enjoyed the free meals from Hare Krishna temple in Oregon. His passion for technology is well known and he led his life the way he wanted to lead and implored everyone to follow their passions than chasing for money.
He was the bulldog who never gave up. When he was fired from Apple he floated his own company and was called back later to lead Apple again. He sent shivers to his competitors through his unflagging determination and enthusiasm towards technology. He was a ruthless task master with more of task orientation than people orientation. That was how he led. But he led successfully and set an example for other leaders to follow.
Make Your Choices Wisely
Steve realized somewhere in February 2011 that his time was getting shorter. Hence, he made his own choices and spent his last days wisely with his family and friends without leaving any regrets at his death bed. Overall Steve lived his life at his own terms He didn’t compromise with his passion and principles.
He gave sleepless nights to his competitors such as Microsoft and Android. Perhaps his competitors will heave a sigh of relief. However, it is hard for us to see the world without Steve. Although Steve is no more physically his ideas will last for many years. Steve made a difference by guiding the society and joined in the elite group of legends such as Einstein, Newton and Edison who have left an indelible mark on society.
He was not only an American leader but also an international leader. He was not only an iconic leader and innovative leader but also a visionary leader who provided direction not only to Apple but to other technology companies in the world. I pay my heartfelt condolences over his death.
