“How to Raise Your Children?” - Professor M.S.Rao

“If you bungle raising your children, I don't think whatever else you do well matters very much.” - Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis

Do you often find it tough to persuade your children? Do you feel that your children don’t obey you?  Do you find that your children are more demanding?  Do you observe that their body language is getting agitated?  Do you think that there is a drastic drift in their attitude? Do you observe that their aspirations and expectations are rising drastically?  If your answer to most of these questions is “yes”, then you are not the parent alone who is facing such challenges. In fact, most of the parents face such challenges globally with little variation due to their cultural, religious and social factors.

First thing to note is that there is growing generation gap between parents and children.  Parents are beset with their pulls and pressures, and trials and tribulations, and children are more influenced by their peers, and media resulting in a lot of gap between them. To overcome such challenge you must spend some time with your children daily so that you bond with them.  Most of the parents, especially where both husband and wife go to work, they don’t find enough time to spend with their children.  They have their own organizational and other challenges, and they find it tough to create time for their children. Parents must get out of their rat race, and spend some time with their children to monitor their behavior and performance.

Parents often think to share their wealth with their children so that the latter can lead comfortable and pleasant life.  That is an old school of thought. The present world calls for a different mindset on the part of parents and demands a totally different set of qualities needed for children to face challenges.  Hence, parents must develop a right mindset keeping the current aspirations of their children to build confidence among their children to face challenges in the world.

Education and character are the two sides of the same coin for any person.  Hence, equip your children with these two traits so that they can face challenges, and live in any part of the world with confidence. Raise hope among them. Pass on your enthusiasm to them. Even if you don’t give any materialistic wealth to your children they can leave a mark behind for others to follow with enthusiasm. Give them knowledge.  Above all, groom them as leaders, and it is worth investing your time on your children as you don’t regret at your deathbed.

"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children...to leave the world a better place...to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." - Ralph Waldo Emerson
