During my teaching and training programs most of the students ask me a common question, “Sir, I don’t have any work experience. How can I grab employment opportunity?” I understand their concern and empathize with them. I tell them as follows:
Nobody is born with experience as everyone starts from scratch. People acquire experience over a period of time. In fact, it is not the experience but your attitude that counts during employment interview. HR (Human Resources) people basically hire for attitude and train for skills. They don’t appreciate the candidates with great experience with rotten attitude. In contrast, they appreciate the candidates with great attitude and with nil experience because it is their attitude that takes companies to greater heights of glory. Most of the companies conduct induction programs to inculcate organizational culture and value system among the newly recruited candidates. They also equip certain skills, abilities and knowledge along with it. It needs great attitude to acquire and absorb the same. And the candidates who come with great experience often come with big egos and don’t absorb with an open mind as their excessive ego and rotten attitude prevents them from listening and learning. Such people prove to be corporate disasters.
Therefore, freshers must note this fact and should not worry for lack of work experience. They must acquire positive, right and strong attitude to grab not only employment opportunities but also to ensure corporate survival and success. Remember what Winston Churchill once remarked, “Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.” Hence, when you go for employment interview next time present and project positive attitude I am sure you will come out with an employment offer in your hand.
