When a participant asked in one of my leadership training programs why too much of hype is being created on leadership globally I thanked the participant and responded as follows:

If you search in Google with terms, ‘leader’ and ‘leadership’ you get around half a billion hits. It indicates the kind of interest these terms are creating globally. People are very much fascinated about ‘leadership’ and ‘leaders’ and are eager to know what makes people excel as great leaders. It appears like a lot of hype. But the truth is that the terms deserve great attention as it provides hope for the mankind especially for the depressed and dejected.

The world is facing unprecedented crisis due to the changes in technology. The changes are too rapid and people find it tough to cope up with the same. The present global corporate world is ridden with several scandals and corruption. The politics are ridden with foul play without any ethics. At times, people breakup their relations for silly reasons. To prevent people from getting cynic and pessimist we need leaders who can take responsibility, walk their talk and lift the morale of the people through their vision, direction, influence and example. Hence, leadership is certainly a hope, not hype as it provides a ray of hope for the people who grope in darkness, who don’t know what to do, and who hit lows in their lives. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. rightly remarked, “We must accept finite disappointment, But never lose infinite hope.”

When the editor of my upcoming book asked me to define and differentiate between hard work and smart work I started working on it. Although we know the meaning of various terms, sometimes we find it tough to put it across in simple and plain language. Then I worked in this way.

Hard Work vs. Smart Work

Hard work involves more of physical efforts while the smart work involves more of intellectual work. Hard work uses brawn while smart work uses brain. Precisely, hard workers work, and then think while smart workers think, and then work. Unskilled and semi skilled workers often adopt hard work while the skilled workers and knowledge workers adopt smart work. Contractors adopt hard work while the consultants adopt smart work.

At times usage of common sense paves the way for smart work. For instance, NASA scientists designed a new pen that can be written in the space with zero gravity by spending exorbitant money while Russians used a pencil to overcome the challenge. What NASA scientists did was hard work and Russians did was smart work.

Hard workers become smart workers only when they learn lessons from their hard work. Nowadays, you are expected to work smart due to the time constraints and demand from clients and all stakeholders. Although smart work is emphasized presently, you need to blend both hard work and smart work to achieve success in life. Remember the things that come easily will go away easily, whereas the things that come hard stay with us forever and we appreciate its value also.

If you want your friendship should be everlasting keep four things in your mind. First thing is to avoid interfering into the personal affairs of your friend. However, you can intervene at the request of your friend to resolve the issues. Second thing is to avoid mixing money with friendship as it ruins your friendship forever. Most of the cases it is the money that ruins strong relations. Hence, keep money matters far away from your friendship. Third thing is seeking sexual favors or loving the person your friend also loved costs your friendship adversely. When you are aware that your friend loves the person whom you also loved, it is better either to stay away or to sort out amicably to avoid problems in friendship. Fourthly, expecting too much from your friend is very bad. Friendship is a divine relation and it has to be respected and treated with sanctity. Hence, don’t expect anything from your friends. Above all, develop the attitude of gratitude as it ensures everlasting friendship.

Remember good friend is a gift from God and treat your friendship as thicker than your blood relation. I am sure if you follow these four pillars and know the meaning of friendship you will have good friends and enjoy your life happily and lead your life successfully.

“Logical Woman and Magical Man” - Professor M.S.Rao

We all have five senses but all senses are not highly active in all human beings. Some people are focused on thinking while some on observation and so on. Here is a story of a woman with logical touch and a man with magical touch.

Susan is the wife of Ron. She has the capacity to observe many things and analyze the same and drawing conclusions accordingly. She mostly uses her head and thinks logically always. In contrast, Ron has the capacity to think very deep but poor in observing the things around him. Number of times Ron did not know what color of clothes Susan wears as he is often lost in a different world by thinking on various aspects and synthesizing the same effectively within his mind. Susan is a very good observer at home and she arranges things well and maintains home clean and tidy. She often goes by head thinking logically and makes least mistakes as she thinks both the pros and cons before making decisions. In contrast, Ron often goes by heart and gut without thinking and makes more mistakes. In addition, Ron has been blessed with the gift of the gab and he attracts audiences through his mesmerizing voice and is often referred as a magical man by many. God is so great to connect both logical woman and magical man so that they can gel well. It is also magnetic theory, “unlike poles attract and like poles repel.” Since both are unlike poles and opposite gender they get attracted and develop compatibility and chemistry thus setting example as an ideal couple.

From this story it is apparent that it is better to marry the person with different qualities so that you can collaborate and leverage everything up to the hilt and provide meaning to your life.
